The Joints: Dixie Dogz Cafe in Sharpsburg

From Staff Reports

Everyone has their “go-to” place to eat. It might be with linen tablecloths and waiters in ties, or where you throw peanuts on the floor and carve your initials in the wooden tables. Whatever and wherever, it’s your “joint.”

There are lots of these places around here, and we’re out to find them all in The Joints column. This month – it’s Dixie Dogz Cafe in Sharpsburg.

Dixie Dogz Cafe

A pretty good guess about the name of this restaurant would make one thing of “southern” and “hotdogs.” Well, yes and no. Definitely some very nice quarter-pound all beef dogs, but there’s a twist on the southern, at least when it comes to their chili.

Theirs is known as Cincinnati chili, which is a pretty different take on anything “southern.” One of the key ingredients is cinnamon. Yes, you read that right. And therefore, it has a very distinct taste. Sort of like whether you put sugar in your cornbread or not.

They’ve got some great tater tots with all kinds of toppings, including that chili mentioned above. Some nice burgers as well, with options ranging from Mac and Cheese to pimento cheese to a fried egg. And if you are in “health” mode, they even have salads for you, including a Southern Chicken Salad (no Cincinnati chili) or a cranberry and blue cheese version. And yes, they have wings in a variety of flavors. Some come on out and try a different kind of chili.
