Below are fun, educational and family-friendly events in-and-around Coweta County for the first weekend of August.

August 4 – FRIDAY

Movie Night at the Wadsworth
6-8 p.m. at the Wadsworth Auditorium, 25 Jefferson Street, Newnan
Join Newnan Leisure Services for a showing of the 2016 Disney animated film, Moana. Due to high demand of the Movie Night at the Pool on Saturday, Leisure Services decided to host a second showing the night before with meet and greet opportunities with Moana and Maui! Registration is required. To register, visit the Newnan Leisure Services Page. The film is rated PG for peril, some scary images and brief thematic elements.

August 5 – SATURDAY

Honeybee Jamboree
10 a.m.-Noon at Chattahoochee Bend State Park, 425 Bob White Way, Newnan
Come down to the park to celebrate and learn about bees! There will be five different booths to explore at the visitor’s center. The booths will be an observation hive, a bee craft, and more! Bring water and comfortable shoes for walking around. $3 per person and $5 per vehicle or $3.75 for Military/Veteran.

Coweta County Farmers Market / Newnan
8:30 a.m.-Noon at Asa M. Powell Sr. Expo Center, 197 Temple Avenue, Newnan
Every Wednesday and Saturday (thru mid-October) Local farmers offer homegrown fruits, vegetables, homemade food items, plants and more!

Senoia Farmers Market
8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at 40 Travis Street, Senoia
It is a community-oriented marketplace that features a variety of local farmers, food producers, artisans, and craftsmen. You can find a wide selection of fresh produce, including fruits and vegetables, herbs, and flowers. There are also local food producers selling homemade baked goods, jams and jellies, honey, and other artisanal products. The market also features handmade crafts, such as pottery, jewelry, and textiles. Visitors can enjoy live music, food trucks, and other family-friendly activities.  EVERY Saturday.

Serenbe Farmers Market
9 a.m. -1 p.m. at 9110 Selborne Lane, Palmetto
Serenbe Farmers Market offers a variety of healthy foods and artisanal goods on a large green space surrounded by a canopy of trees. Spend the morning shopping for your weekly groceries or unique gifts & wears while enjoying the beauty of nature.

Peachtree City Market
9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Aberdeen Village Shopping Center, Aberdeen Parkway, Peachtree City
This market brings approximately 60 vendors offering a variety of fresh produce, poultry, beef and pork, bread, sweet treats, honey, eggs, prepared foods and so much more. It’s the perfect place to find the consummate gift for the foodie in your life and visitors will also find live music going on.

Market Day / Newnan
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Courthouse Square, Downtown Newnan
Hosted by Main Street Newnan on the first Saturday of every month. The Market features over 55 unique spaces, with a variety of one-of-a-kind gift items. Market Day favorites include: fresh locally grown produce, honey, jams & jellies, pottery, art, hand-woven baskets, leather products, etc.

Tina Turner Tribute – SOLD OUT

Movie Night at Lynch Park Pool / SOLD OUT
8 p.m. at Lynch Park Pool, 23 Richard Allen Drive, Newnan
Join Newnan Leisure Services for a 2nd night of showing the 2016 Disney animated film, Moana. Snacks will be provided and the event will have a meet and greet the first hour with Moana and Maui! NITWITS: Once Upon A Time Improv Show
8 p.m. at Newnan Theatre Company, 24 1st Avenue, Newnan • 770-683-6282

August 7 – MONDAY

Purple Heart Day / Peachtree City
9 a.m. at City Hall, 151 Willowbend Road, Peachtree City • 770-487-7657
This event includes a flag-raising ceremony and a proclamation designating Aug. 7 as Purple Heart Day in Peachtree City. All Purple Heart recipients living in Peachtree City are encouraged to attend. An appreciation breakfast in the Floy Farr Room at City Hall will immediately follow.

Farmer Street Cemetery Commission Community Meeting
6-8 p.m. at Howard Warner Gymnasium, 55 Savannah Street, Newnan
The City of Newnan welcomes you to join the Farmer Street Cemetery Commission at a community drop in event designed to gather input on potential future improvements to the Farmer Street Cemetery.

August 8 – TUESDAY

Backyard Association Meeting
7 p.m. at UGA Extension Coweta County Office, 255 Pine Road, Newnan • 770-254-2620
Guest speaker will be Trecia Neal discussing “Living with the Landscape – Why Native Plants?” Trecia is a biologist and naturalist with a special focus on pollinators and educating the public.
