The Weekend: Things To Do in-and-around Coweta County

Weekends around Coweta County can get busy offering many things to do and see.
This weekend, Oktoberfest in Downtown Newnan on Friday, the Hummingbird Festival in Hogansville on Saturday and Sunday, and a Celebration of Nat King Cole at the Nixon Centre on Sunday highlight the events scheduled.
Below are a list of activities taking place beginning today through Sunday.
FRIDAY, OCT. 19
Downtown Newnan from 5 to 9 p.m.
Over 30+ downtown businesses participants extend their business hours, and their hospitality, to downtown guest to serve as tasting locations for the different varieties of craft beer that is available for sampling.
Campfire Building 101
Come out to Chattahoochee Bend Park from 6 to 7 p.m. and learn the proper way to build a campfire and get some tips from the ranger. We will light the best campfire and have s’mores for $1. Meet at Picnic Shelter 1. $1 plus $5 parking.

Dracula at Wadsworth Auditorium
Newnan Cultural Arts Commission with Southern Arc Dance Theater presents an original dance performance with live music.

High School Football
Five of the six local schools are in action tonight. East Coweta travels to Pebblebrook; Newnan is at Westlake; Northgate hosts Tri-Cities; Trinity Christian is at home vs. Holy Innocents; and Central Christian hosts its Homecoming game against Cherokee Christian. The Heritage School has a bye.
SATURDAY, OCT. 20
Paper Shredding
Keep Newnan Beautiful offers free onsite paper shredding for residents Sat., Oct. 20 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. This will be our last paper shredding event for 2018.

Senoia Optimist BBQ
The Senoia Optimist Club will host a barbecue Saturday, October 20, to raise money to fund research for childhood cancer. The barbecue will start at 11 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. or until the club sells out. Pre-sale orders can be made with any member of the Senoia Optimist Club – especially for those customers who will be unable to make it to the barbecue on the 20th . Prices are as follows: Gallon of Stew $30; Quart of Stew $1; Pound of BBQ pork $10; and a Plate with beverage $10.

Hike and Paddle – Fall Edition
Come out to Chattahoochee Bend Park from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for a 5.5 mile hike on the river trail along with a moderate paddle down the Chattahoochee River. Kayaks are available to rent if needed, you MUST preregister for this event. $12 per person plus $30 kayak fee (if needed) meet at visitor center. $12 plus $5 parking.

2018 Hogansville Hummingbird Festival
The 2018 Hogansville Hummingbird Festival is an outdoor Festival for the whole family in historic small town Hogansville ~ a true small town festival, featuring 200 vendors, food court, live music, kids area, artisan crafts, and more. All proceeds benefit the Hogansville Charitable Trust.

Fall Festival – New Hope Baptist Church
The New Hope Baptist Church invites you to their 2018 Fall Festival, set for Saturday, Oct. 20. The event is from 5-8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees can enjoy pumpkin decorating, a cakewalk, hayride, obstacle course, face painting, bounce house, games and prizes, door prizes, and hot dogs, chips, drinks and popcorn.
