The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Wednesday, Jan. 6.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

On Wednesday, Coweta County confirmed 47 new cases of COVID-19 including 1 death and 4 hospitalizations. It’s the 2nd straight day with 4 people hospitalized. Coweta has now seen double-digit cases for a record 54 consecutive days, dating from Nov. 14.

Just six days into the month of January, the county has posted 346 cases for an average of 57.7 per day. There have been 3 deaths and 9 hospitalizations.

Today, the age group of 65-74 year-olds had the highest number of COVID cases with 13.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 5619 cases, 81 deaths (with an additional 6 probable deaths) and 224 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 23rd among all Georgia counties for most cumulative cases.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 9.9 percent, and in the last two weeks, is rising at a record-high of 22.5 percent.

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed 5588 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, including 69 deaths, a record-high 611 hospitalizations and 70 ICU admits. Today’s numbers push Georgia’s cumulative totals to over 600,000 cases and 10,000 deaths. The 611 hospitalizations broke the previous high of 506 set back during the early stages of the pandemic on April 17.

It’s the 30th time in the past 31 days that the state has seen 3000-or-more cases in a single day.

Presently, a record-high 5,414 people in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 31.5 percent of all statewide hospital patients. By comparison during the spike in cases over the summer, the highest number of COVID patients hospitalized in a single day was 3200 on July 30.

The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Wednesday is 13,337 or at 87.8 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2736 or 92.2 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use in GA is presently at 1523 or 42.0 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 602,796 cases, 10,035 deaths, 43,629 hospitalizations and 7605 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.4 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is rising at 19.9 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (8719 on Jan. 1); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
