The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Wednesday, Dec. 23.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 77 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, which is the 4th time the county has been above 70 cases in the past 6 days. It’s the 2nd-highest daily total for Coweta, trailing only 97 cases on Dec. 20. Other Wednesday numbers included 1 death and 2 hospitalizations.

Coweta has now been above 30 cases for 15 straight days and has posted double-digit cases for 40 consecutive days, just 1 day shy of tying the county’s longest stretch of 41 during the summer. Coweta’s 77 cases today pushed the monthly cumulative total to 1110.

In the past 24 hours, the age group of 45-54 year olds had 16 new cases of COVID, the highest of any group.

As mentioned above, Coweta has 1110 cases (highest cumulative total for a month) or 48.3 per day with 5 deaths and 27 hospitalizations in the month of December. The 48.3 per day average will likely set a new high with 8 days left in the month.  The previous daily rate average was 30.7 in August.

To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 4763 cases, 73 deaths (with an additional 5 probable deaths) and 204 hospitalizations. Coweta ranks 24th among all Georgia counties for most cumulative cases.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 8.9 percent, and in the last two weeks, is rising at 14.3 percent.

GEORGIA CASES

On Wednesday, Georgia followed yesterday’s record-breaking 6203 cases by confirming 5153 today. It’s the 5th-highest single-day total for cases. Other Wednesday numbers were 51 deaths, 303 hospitalizations and 45 ICU admits.

Presently, there are 3756 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, which is 23.3 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is 12,752 or at 84.2 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2586 or 87.8 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use in GA is presently at 1331 or 37.2 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 524,055 cases, 9554 deaths, 40,139 hospitalizations and 7148 ICU admits.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 9.8 percent, and in the last two weeks, it stands at 13.8 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (6203 on Dec. 22); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
