Another weekend rolls into the Coweta County area calendar with several family-friendly events on the docket.

Starting today, Abby’s Angels Foundation is hosting a Friday Night Lights Safe Teen Driver Night at Northgate High School. And five local prep football teams are in action, including the night’s best matchup – Starr’s Mill at Northgate.

On Saturday, it’s Market Day around the Courthouse Square in downtown Newnan, the Wilson 100 Bike Rides in Senoia, the 3rd Annual Car Show hosted by the Newnan Police Department, Docent Training at the McRitchie-Hollis Museum and a Grandparent’s Craft event at Chattahoochee Bend State Park.

For animal lovers, there’s also the Low-Cost Vaccine event at the HELP Spay/Neuter Clinic in Newnan, plus both Dog (Pet Smart) and Cat (Petco) adoptions in Peachtree City on Saturday.

And Sunday, it’s the second of two weekend performances of The Jungle Book at the Serenbe Playhouse.

Weather-wise, it will be hot and dry here in Coweta County. Expect high temperatures in the 90s, 95 on Saturday and 95 again on Sunday. Stay hydrated if you are planning any outdoor activities.

Newnan Trolley Service
This free service is offered to take riders from downtown Newnan to Ashley Park. Runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pickup locations at City Hall, the Governor Ellis Arnall Parking Lot on Madison Street, and Ashley Park at Dillard’s (West Entrance) and Regal Cinemas. The first pickup is at 1 p.m. at City Hall with the last full route starting at 7 p.m.

It’s a night for Northgate football as the Vikings take on Starr’s Mill and to also spread the importance of safe and smart driving! Abby’s Angels Foundation will be onsite at Northgate High with FREE giveaways and a Northgate Safe Driving Pledge for students and families to sign! Try out the Distracted Driving Simulator provided by Grady Hospital to sharpen your safe driving skills! Join with us to SAVE LIVES on our roads! YOU can make the difference!

Strange LaGrange: Ghosts, Legends, & Spirited History – A Walking Tour
Join Troup County Historical Society Docent and Southern Spirit Guide, Lewis Powell, for a ghostly tour of downtown LaGrange to hear about the spirited history of Troup County and those who call it home. Tours will depart from the Legacy Museum on Main, rain or shine, and move through the downtown area. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and an umbrella if the weather calls for rain!

Market Day in Downtown Newnan
Market Day is the very first Saturday of each month from April to December in downtown Newnan. The Market features over 50 vendors made up of local artisans, artists and farmers offering handmade, homemade and homegrown products, with new vendors and new products each month. Market Day favorites include: fresh locally grown produce, honey, jams & jellies, salsa, pottery, art, freshly baked goods, handmade furniture, birdhouses, wood art, and much more! Pickin’ on the Square also occurs simultaneously each month during the Market Day. It’s the vernacular sounds of local musicians playing acoustic music around the Courthouse Lawn and side streets. Docent Training at McRitchie-Hollis Museum
The McRitchie-Hollis Museum is starting its docent program and is looking for history lovers and good storytellers. Docent Training classes, hosted by the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society, will be held twice a month until the end of the year on the first Tuesday and Saturday of the month. Get a head start by reading some documents on the Trello App under the public board: NCHS Docent Program. At the training day, Docents will meet staff and be taught the basic tour and learn procedures such as money taking and group tour flow. There is no cost to be a Docent and participants can take the training multiple times. Docents are asked to volunteer two times a month during our normal tour times, Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m. -3 p.m. If you can not staff a full day, we still welcome your participation.
