The last weekend of January is here and with it are a few interesting things to do.

On Friday, Foundation Christian Church hosts “The Tech Talk” at Wadsworth Auditorium and TV/Film star Joe Piscopo hits the stage for a “Night in Little Italy” at the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts in Carrollton.

On Saturday, the free Dental Van event (rescheduled from two weeks ago) is at Nissan of Newnan, there’s a litter pickup on the LINC, an AARP Safe Driver’s Course at Central Library, Friends of the Fight Casino Night at Newnan Centre, Bridge Days at Hills & Dales Estate in LaGrange and the first of a two-day Puerto Rico Earthquake Relief Drive headed locally by the Coweta County Sheriff’s Department.

And on Sunday, Monarch House hosts Hometown Novel Nights with special guests Martha B. Boone and Tim Miller, and Backpack Buddies of Georgia is hosting an Open House and Food Drive.

Kris Youmans of the Kris Youmans Band has your weekend live music calendar covered. The Kris Youmans Band will be busy as they open on Saturday at Mill Town Music Hall in Bremen for Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver.

Weather-wise, the weekend will get off to a rainy start today, but showers move out and clearing begins this afternoon. Today’s high will be near 58 degrees. On Saturday, mostly sunny skies with a high near 49 degrees and on Sunday, mostly cloudy with a high of 53. Rain chances move to 40 percent on Sunday night.

Newnan Trolley Service
This free service is offered to take riders from downtown Newnan to Ashley Park. Runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pickup locations at City Hall, the Governor Ellis Arnall Parking Lot on Madison Street, and Ashley Park at Dillard’s (West Entrance) and Regal Cinemas. The first pickup is at 1 p.m. at City Hall with the last full route starting at 7 p.m.

Healthy Families: The Tech Talk
Hosted by Foundation Christian Church at Wadsworth Auditorium. Technology has incredible potential! Potential to unlock ease and efficiency in our lives. However, technology has the potential to cause great harm and hurt in families. This is why Foundation Christian Church is hosting this event. If you have children that have a phone now or will have a phone at some point in their future this event is for you. Folks will be hearing from one of the foremost experts in the state of Georgia about the role of technology in a family. Tom Shefchunas (Shef) is the Executive Director of Student Strategy at Orange and has a passion for the healthy development of children and students when it comes to technology. Strange LaGrange: Ghosts, Legends, & Spirited History – A Walking Tour
Join Troup County Historical Society Docent and Southern Spirit Guide, Lewis Powell, for a ghostly tour of downtown LaGrange to hear about the spirited history of Troup County and those who call it home. Tours will depart from the Legacy Museum on Main, rain or shine, and move through the downtown area. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and an umbrella if the weather calls for rain!

Puerto Rico Earthquake Relief Donations
The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with local and national businesses to get desperately needed aid to the area. On December 28, 2019, Puerto Rico was shook by a 6.4 magnitude earthquake, less than two years after the island was devastated by Hurricane Maria. The island continues to be rocked by strong aftershocks daily. Today, approximately two-thirds of the island remains without electricity, with many still surviving without basic life essentials, including water. Together, we will be collecting new items on Saturday and Sunday such as: tents, sleeping bags, hygiene items, flashlights and batteries. Drop off donations at Born Again Ministries.

Bridge Days at Hills and Dales Estate
The Callaways loved card games and billiards, playing them often with friends and family. Help Hills and Dales Estate in LaGrange continue the fun by grabbing a partner and joining them for a day of bridge! Bridge Days will take place on January 25, February 29, August 29, and September 26 at the Visitor’s Center. Play as much or as little as you like. Friends of the Fight Casino Night
Southeastern Assistance in Healthcare is hosting its 5th Annual Friends of the Fight Casino Night at the Newnan Centre. The event is presented by Cancer Treatment Centers of America to benefit Southeastern Assistance in Healthcare and will help cancer patients with their nonmedical needs.
