From Staff Reports

The Memorial Day Weekend has arrived here in Coweta County and with it are numerous events that most everyone can participate in and enjoy.

On Friday, seniors can get some assistance with a free Medicare 101 seminar at the Newnan Carnegie Library. And don’t forget those other seniors – 12th graders – which graduate at Northgate High School later in the evening.

Saturday has four neat activities at Chattahoochee Bend State Park – Scavenger Hunt, Hike and Paddle, Find The Flags and the Ducky Race. East Coweta High graduation takes place early Saturday at Shoemake Stadium. Market Days are set in Grantville and Brooks. There’s the 5K/10K All-American Run in Peachtree City and our Kris Youmans has listed a night full of live and local music, including the first of two nights of the Fayette Music Festival at Southern Ground Amphitheater in Fayetteville.

Sunday’s highlights include an encore Hike and Paddle at Chattahoochee Bend State Park and the next-to-last Sunday at the Georgia Renaissance Festival in Fairburn.

And on Memorial Day Monday, the 14th Annual Memorial Day Remembrance & Festival takes place in downtown Senoia with the featured Parade starting at 2 p.m. A Memorial Day ceremony is also set for Newnan’s Veterans Park that morning.

Weather-wise, you’ll think it’s summer over this four-day weekend as temperatures will be in the mid-to-upper 90s with little or no chance of any rain. With this mini heat wave in place, be sure to stay hydrated during any outside activities over the holiday weekend.

Memorial Day Weekend Sales underway from our advertisers: Knox Furniture in Newnan where folks can register to win a La-Z-Boy Full Power Recliner. Knox will be closed Memorial Day. Crumpton Furniture in Fayetteville has everything from 40% up to 60% off and will be open on Memorial Day. LKQ Pick Your Part has a 3-day Sale (May 25-26-27) where customers can get all used parts 40% off. Nissan of Newnan is having an Exclusive 7-Day Super Memorial Sale from May 24-31 where everyone gets approved on vehicle purchases.
