From Staff Reports

This weekend is setting up similar to a week ago, says the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.

Friday and Saturday will have sunny and partly sunny skies, respectively, before giving way on Sunday to another storm system. And again, the potential of severe storms associated with a front moving through Sunday will be at night.

The NWS doesn’t think the system moving through this Sunday will be as strong as the one which launched numerous tornadoes across the south last week. But severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, damaging winds and a possibility of tornadoes does exist, particularly south of I-20.

In the meantime, look for highs over the weekend in the lower 70s with lows near 50.

Below is the day-by-day forecast (subject to change) from the NWS:

FRIDAY – Mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Light east wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

FRIDAY NIGHT – A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 53. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

SATURDAY – A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11am, then a slight chance of showers between 11am and noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 72. Northwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

SATURDAY NIGHT – A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 51. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

SUNDAY – A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 8am. High near 70. Southeast wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

SUNDAY NIGHT – Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could be severe. Low around 56. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
