Weekly Report: Coweta County cases, hospitalizations rise again

THE SKINNY – Coweta County recorded 264 new COVID-19 cases and 24 hospitalizations last week, both up from the previous week.

Below is the weekly summary of COVID-19 data thru Wednesday, June 22 from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY

Coweta County confirmed 264 new COVID-19 cases in the past week (June 16-22) for an average of 37.7 per day. It’s an increase of 43 total cases from the previous week (221, June 9-15) and the most in a week since 398 from Jan. 29 to Feb. 4 earlier this year.

The daily high number of cases came on Saturday, June 18 with 58. In fact, Coweta posted fives days in the past week of at least 30 cases – 41 (June 16); 41 (June 17); 58 (June 18); 30 (June 20); and 39 (June 22).  

In addition in the last week, Coweta did not confirm any deaths (down 1 from the previous week) and had 24 hospitalizations (up 7). The 24 hospitalizations were the most since 28 during the week of May 5-11. 

For the month of June, Coweta has registered 805 cases (36.6 per day),  1 death,  56 hospitalizations. 

Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, Coweta County has reported 182,540 vaccines applied thru June 22 with 414 last week.  The Coweta vaccination rate is 55 percent for people with one dose (Georgia is at 64 percent) and 50 percent fully vaccinated (Georgia is at 57 percent) as of June 22. And 43 percent of Coweta residents have been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot (Georgia 43 percent). 

The overall positive test rate in Coweta was 13.0 percent on June 22, with the two-week infection rate rising to 22.8 percent. Last week, those test rates were at 12.9 and 18.2 respectively.

Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 22,355 cases, 430 deaths (with an additional 62 probable deaths) and 1,579 hospitalizations thru June 22 from when the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 20th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 19th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA

Statewide, Georgia posted increases in cases, hospitalizations and ICU admits and had a decrease in deaths for the week of June 16-22.

Georgia confirmed 14,006 cases for an average of 2,000.8 per day for last week – an increase of 440 cases from the previous week of June 9-15.

Other totals from June 16-22 included 43 deaths (down 24 from the previous week), 656 hospitalizations (up 79) and 32 ICU admits (up 1).

The number of COVID patients hospitalized on June 22 was 849 or 5.3 percent of all people hospitalized in Georgia. It was an increase of 125 from the previous week and the 9th consecutive week this number has risen.

The overall positive test rate in Georgia was 12.2 percent on June 22, with the two-week infection rate standing at 17.7 percent.

Overall, Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 2,035,187 cases, 31,995 deaths, 115,735 hospitalizations and 16,200 ICU admits thru June 22 from when the pandemic began.
