Weekly Report: Coweta County cases, hospitalizations rise in past week

THE SKINNY – Coweta County recorded 200 new COVID-19 cases last week, up from the previous week.

Below is the weekly summary of COVID-19 data thru Wednesday, June 8 from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY

Coweta County confirmed 200 new COVID-19 cases in the past week (June 2-8) for an average of 28.5 per day. It’s an increase of 35 cases from the previous week (165, May 26-June 1) and the most in a week since 398 from Jan. 29 to Feb. 4 earlier this year.

The daily high number of cases came on Friday, June 3 with 38. In fact, Coweta posted four days in the past week of at least 30 cases (37 on June 2; 38 on June 3; 30 on June 7; and 34 on June 8).  

In addition in the last week, Coweta did not confirm any deaths (same as previous week) and had 15 hospitalizations (up 3). 

For the month of June, Coweta has registered 320 cases (40.0 per day),  0 deaths,  15 hospitalizations. 

Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, Coweta County has reported 181,639 vaccines applied with 547 last week.  The Coweta vaccination rate is 55 percent for people with one dose and 50 percent for fully vaccinated as of June 8. In addition, 43 percent of Coweta residents have been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot. 

The overall positive test rate in Coweta was 12.8 percent on June 8, with the two-week infection rate rising to 16.3 percent. Last week, those test rates were at 12.8 and 14.6 respectively.

Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 21,870 cases, 429 deaths (with an additional 62 probable deaths) and 1,538 hospitalizations thru June 8 from when the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 21st in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 19th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA

Statewide, Georgia posted increases in cases, deaths and hospitalizations but dropped in numbers for ICU admits for the week of June 2-8.

Georgia confirmed 14,641 cases for an average of 2,091.6 per day for last week – an increase of 3,238 cases from the previous week of May 26-June 1.

Other totals from June 2-8 included 49 deaths (up 7 from the previous week), 569 hospitalizations (up 127) and 33 ICU admits (down 12).

The number of COVID patients hospitalized last week was 660 or 4.2 percent of all people hospitalized in Georgia. It was an increase of 86 from the previous week and the 7th consecutive week this number has risen.

The overall positive test rate in Georgia was 12.1 percent on June 8, with the two-week infection rate standing at 15.6 percent.

Overall, Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 2,007,615 cases, 31,885 deaths, 114,502 hospitalizations and 16,137 ICU admits thru June 8 from when the pandemic began.
