Weekly Report: Cases, hospitalizations continue to fall in Coweta County

THE SKINNY – Coweta County posted only 111 new COVID-19 cases last week, the fewest since early May.

Below is the weekly summary of COVID-19 data thru Wednesday, September 14 from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY

Coweta County saw decreases in two of three COVID-19 related categories in the past reporting week of Sept. 8-14. 

Coweta confirmed 111 new COVID-19 cases last week, the fewest since recording 94 the week of May 5-11, 2022. It was a drop of 92 cases from the previous week (Sept. 1-7). The county averaged 15.8 cases per day with a high of 35 on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

The daily cases totals from last week included:
21 – Thursday, Sept. 8
13 – Friday, Sept. 9
16 – Saturday, Sept. 10
12 – Sunday, Sept. 11
7 – Monday, Sept. 12
7 – Tuesday, Sept. 13
35 – Wednesday, Sept. 14

In addition, Coweta recorded 2 deaths (up 1) and had 16 hospitalizations (down 8). The 16 hospitalizations were the fewest in a week since 15 from June 2-8, 2022.

This month, Coweta has registered 314 cases (22.4 per day) with 3 deaths and 40 hospitalizations.

Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, 188,361 Coweta residents have had vaccines applied thru Sept. 14 with 775 last week.  The Coweta vaccination rate is now – 56 percent with one dose (Georgia is at 65 percent), 51 percent fully vaccinated (Georgia is at 58 percent), 45 percent have been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot (Georgia 44 percent), and 23 percent have had an additional dose (Georgia 25 percent).

The overall positive test rate in Coweta was 14.0 percent on Sept. 14, with the two-week infection rate dropping to 16.2 percent (the lowest two-week rate since June 1). Last week, those test rates were at 14.0 and 21.5 respectively.

Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 25,647 cases, 444 deaths (with an additional 66 probable deaths) and 1,901 hospitalizations thru Sept. 14 from when the pandemic began some 30-plus months ago. Coweta ranks 19th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 16th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA

Statewide, Georgia again saw declines in four of five major COVID-19 categories for the week of Sept. 8-14.

Georgia confirmed 6,597 cases for an average of 942.4 per day last week – falling by 2,370 cases from the previous week of Sept. 1-7.

Other totals last week included 602 hospitalizations (down 99) and 44 ICU admits (down 9). The only COVID-19 category that saw an increase was deaths. Georgia confirmed 135 COVID-related deaths last week, up 45 from a week earlier.

The number of COVID patients hospitalized on Sept. 14 was 941 or 5.7 percent of all people hospitalized in Georgia. It was a decrease of 177 patients from a week earlier and the lowest number of COVID patients hospitalized since 849 on June 22, 2022.

The overall positive test rate in Georgia is 12.7 percent on Sept. 14, with the two-week infection rate falling to 11.8 percent from 15.3 last week.

Overall, Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 2,229,087 cases, 33,223 deaths, 125,575 hospitalizations and 16,834 ICU admits thru Sept. 14 from when the pandemic began.
