Three Rivers introduces support, assistance for grandparents raising grandkids

From Special Reports

It is probably an understatement to suggest today’s family model is quite different from those from years gone by – especially for the baby boomers.

And it certainly is not uncommon in 2022 to have grandparents raising their grandchildren. That’s where the Three Rivers Area Agency on Aging can help.

Three Rivers has introduced a new Kinship Program that offers support and assistance to those very grandparents who have now taken over the parental duties of their grandkids. This program is offered in the 10-county region which Three Rivers serves and it includes Coweta County.

The program is for grandparents, step-grandparents or other caregivers age 55 and older. Grandparents or other caregivers must be related by blood, marriage, or through adoption; have children for who they are responsible living with them; are the primary custodial caregivers; and have a legal relationship to the children.

Three Rivers works with community partners, DFCS and other agencies to provide services and support to grandparents.

All grandparents need to do to inquire is contact Three Rivers Area Agency on Aging at 678-552-2838 or email [email protected].
