Weekly Report: Coweta County sees decreases in COVID-19 numbers

THE SKINNY – Coweta County recorded fewer cases, deaths and hospitalizations during last week’s reporting period (Oct. 16-22).

Below is a summary of COVID-19 data thru Friday, Oct. 22 from  the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 69 new COVID-19 cases, 9 deaths and 19 hospitalizations during the week of Oct. 16-22, which is a decrease from a week ago in all categories.

Coweta averaged 9.8 cases per day last week but its case totals shrunk by 28 when comparing to the prior week. The county also had 9 deaths (down 6 from a week earlier) and 19 hospitalizations which was 11 fewer.

Also dropping was the number of Coweta vaccinations. Coweta County confirmed 1,750 vaccinations last week, which was down 221 from the previous week. Coweta has had 130,726 vaccinations applied. Of those, 69,385 people or 48 percent have 1 dose of the vaccination, and 63,144 or 44 percent are fully vaccinated.

For October, Coweta has posted 328 COVID cases (14.9 per day) with 41 deaths (tied for 2nd-highest monthly total) and 76 hospitalizations (3rd highest). 

The positive test rate this week of all persons tested in Coweta was 11.1 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 7.6 percent. Last week, those test rates were at 11.1 and 8.1, respectively.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 12,621 cases, 322 deaths (with an additional 31 probable deaths) and 787 hospitalizations thru Oct. 22 from when the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 26th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed 6,637 COVID-19 cases for an average of 948.1 per day for the reporting period of Oct. 16-22. It was a decrease of 3,395 cases from last week’s reporting period (Oct. 9-15) and the lowest weekly total for the state since July 20-26. Tuesday’s daily total of 1,121 cases were the most in a single day last week for the state.

The state also saw drops in deaths and hospitalizations the past week. Georgia confirmed 488 deaths (down 39 from the previous week) and 1,196 hospitalizations (down 81). The number of ICU Admits were 156, an increase of 10.

Regarding vaccinations, the Georgia Department of Public Health reports that 11,042,095 vaccinations have been applied in Georgia (146,781 in the past week, down 12,660 from the previous week) through October 22. Of those, 5,775,431 Georgia residents or 56 percent have 1 dose of the vaccine while 5,138,686 or 49 percent have been fully vaccinated.

Three of the four patient census categories dropped in the past week. ICU Beds in Use fell by 51 and now stands at 2,480 or 83.8 percent capacity statewide. The number of COVID Patients Hospitalized dropped by 297 and is now at 1,551 or 9.7 percent of all people hospitalized in Georgia.   And Adult Ventilators in Use fell by 135 and is at 1,259 or 31.2 percent capacity. 

In-Patient Hospital Beds in Use saw an increase by 455 and now totals 12,807 or 83.1 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.1 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 5.7 percent. Last week, those numbers were 11.2 and 7.1, respectively.

Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 1,257,310 cases, 24,357 deaths, 85,039 hospitalizations and 13,337 ICU admits thru Oct. 22 from when the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8, 2021); deaths (188 on Oct. 15, 2021); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6, 2021); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12, 2020).
