Below is the weekly summary of COVID-19 data from March 23-29, 2023, from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY

For the first time in six weeks, Coweta County saw an increase in new COVID-19 cases this past week. Coweta confirmed 35 new cases for an average of 5.0 per day. It was 9 cases more than the previous week.

For the fifth straight week, Coweta posted 0 deaths. It is the longest stretch of weeks without a COVID-related death in the county since the pandemic began.

Coweta did have 3 hospitalizations, with was a decrease of 1 from a week earlier.

For the month of March, Coweta has confirmed 131 new cases (4.5 per day) with 0 deaths and 19 hospitalizations. It’s the lowest number of cases in a month since 107 of March 2022 and the lowest number of hospitalizations since 10 in July 2021. Coweta has never had a month with 0 deaths during the pandemic.

Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, 202,155 vaccines have been applied to Coweta residents thru March 29 with 96 last week. The Coweta and Georgia vaccination rates follow – Coweta is at 56 percent with one dose (Georgia is at 67 percent), 52 percent fully vaccinated (Georgia is at 59 percent), 47 percent have been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot (Georgia 47 percent), and 24 percent have had an additional dose (Georgia 27 percent).

The overall positive test rate in Coweta is 13.7 percent this week, with the two-week infection rate dropping to 9.6 percent (from 10.6 last week).

Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 27,998 cases, 459 deaths (with an additional 68 probable deaths) and 2,179 hospitalizations through March 29 from when the pandemic began some three years ago. Coweta ranks 19th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 16th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA

Georgia had declines in three of the four major COVID-19 categories for the week of March 23-29, 2023.

New cases was the lone category which Georgia had an increase in numbers. Georgia confirmed 1,957 cases for an average of 279.6 per day last week, rising by 393 cases from the previous week. The increase broke a streak of six consecutive weeks with a decline.

The categories to have decreases included deaths with 29 (down 7), hospitalizations with 213 (down 54) and ICU admits with 26 (down 15).,

The overall positive test rate in Georgia this week fell to 12.4 percent, with the two-week infection rate also falling and is at 6.1 percent (6.2 percent last week).

Overall, Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 2,355,128 cases, 35,218 deaths, 139,286 hospitalizations and 17,772 ICU admits through March 29 from when the pandemic began in March 2020.
