Below is the weekly summary of COVID-19 data from March 9-15, 2023, from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY

Coweta County had one of its best weeks regarding COVID-19 in a while during the past reporting period of March 9-15.

Coweta confirmed only 33 new COVID-19 cases for an average of 4.7 per day. It was 2 cases lower than the previous week and the lowest weekly total since 32 for the week of October 20-26, 2022. And it marked the fifth consecutive week the county has reported a decline in new cases.

For the third straight week, Coweta posted 0 deaths – the first time that has happened since mid-October 2022. Coweta also had a drop in hospitalizations with only 3, down 6 from a week earlier. It’s the second time in three weeks with only 3 hospitalizations and the lowest total in a week since November 3-9, 2022.

For the month of March, Coweta has confirmed 70 new cases (4.6 per day) with 0 deaths and 12 hospitalizations.

Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, 200,000 vaccines have been applied to Coweta residents thru March 15 with 84 last week. The Coweta and Georgia vaccination rates follow – Coweta is at 56 percent with one dose (Georgia is at 67 percent), 52 percent fully vaccinated (Georgia is at 59 percent), 47 percent have been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot (Georgia 47 percent), and 24 percent have had an additional dose (Georgia 27 percent).

The overall positive test rate in Coweta is 13.8 percent this week, with the two-week infection rate dropping to 11.3 percent (from 11.7 last week).

Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 27,937 cases, 459 deaths (with an additional 68 probable deaths) and 2,172 hospitalizations through March 15 from when the pandemic began some 35-plus months ago. Coweta ranks 19th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 16th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA

Georgia had declines in two of the four major COVID-19 categories for the week of March 9-15, 2023.

Georgia confirmed 1,635 cases for an average of 233.6 per day last week, falling by 447 cases from the previous week. It’s the fifth consecutive week to see a decline.

The other category to have a decrease included deaths with 36, that’s down 13 from a week earlier.

The categories to see increases included hospitalizations with 274 (up 40) and ICU Admits with 32 (up 7).

The overall positive test rate in Georgia this week remains at 12.5 percent, with the two-week infection rate falling to 6.5 percent (7.9 percent last week).

Overall, Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 2,351,607 cases, 35,153 deaths, 138,806 hospitalizations and 17,705 ICU admits through March 15 from when the pandemic began in March 2020.
