“Kendra’s 2,” located at 14 Jefferson St., in downtown Newnan, has closed. The store sold women’s and teen clothing. The main store on North Court Square remains open.
Banana Beach Tan has reopened at one location under new ownership and management. Owners Kay and Terry Beckom have opened Banana Beach Tan at 1741 Newnan Crossing Blvd. in the Kroger Shopping Center. Two additional locations – 90 Glenda Trace (Publix Shopping Center) in Thomas Crossroads and 487 Hwy. 29 North (Little Giant Shopping Center) in Newnan have closed.

Stephen Brown is the new fire chief for the city of Newnan. Brown has spent 23 years with the Newnan Fire Department. He takes the place of David Whitley, who recently retired. Congratulations to Brown and we wish him well.
The “House of Burgers,” located right in front of the University of West Georgia Newnan campus, has a “closed” sign on the front door. No word on what’s going on, although there’s been some activity with people in and out frequently.
Local Provisions, a “one-of-a-kind culinary marketplace,” has opened at 8 Jefferson St. in downtown Newnan. The store focuses on locally grown produce and local products.

Mike McDonald is taking over as the new football coach at Northgate High School. It will be the school’s third coach in as many years. Kesley Dalrymple stepped down after one year, and he was preceded by Tommy Walburn, who retired in 2016. And to make it even more interesting, McDonald is the former head coach at Newnan High School.
If you’ve been wondering about the massive ground prep work being done down on Lower Fayetteville Road at Newnan Crossing Boulevard East, wonder no more. It’s part of the groundbreaking for the “Village Square at Newnan Crossing” development that will include greenspace, restaurants, offices, apartments and townhomes, along with other amenities like a fitness center, swimming pools and walking spaces. Developers are Novare Group along with PointOne Holdings Development and Batson-Cook Development Company. (BCDC).

100 Women Who Care Coweta County recently presented a $10,000 donation to One Roof Ecumenical Alliance Outreach. One Roof has been helping Coweta residents since it was launched by a coalition of churches in 2007, and today individual donors have become their greatest supporters. The organization also operates the One Roof Thrift Store on Temple Avenue. The 100 Women group was started in 2016 as a Coweta-based grassroots organization that focuses on coordinating funding for charitable organizations and needs in Coweta County. The group consists of 100 women who meet quarterly, each bringing $100 in contributions to benefit the community.

Atlanta Trek, a full service bicycle shop, is set to open a new location in downtown Newnan. The company’s third store will offer sales, service and rentals, and should tie in nicely with the city’s planned LINC system, a 25-mile multi-use trail the city has started on.
According to The Newnan Menu, QuikTrip is planning a second location in Coweta County, this time at the corner of Poplar Road and the Newnan CRossing Boulevard.

Hogansville residents Holland Ware and Faye Hendrix-Ware have pledged $2 million to support construction of a new 18-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. The $8.5 million expansion will increase the total number of beds at Piedmont Newnan and allow the hospital to serve more of the critically ill close to home. Upon completion, Ware and Hendrix-Ware will have the right to name each of the patient rooms, in honor of their contribution.
Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Southeastern Regional Medical Center (Southeastern) welcomed more than 350 survivors from 34 states for Celebrate Life. The annual event honors survivors celebrating five or more years since beginning treatment at CTCA. During Celebrate Life, celebrants’ names are added to the “Survivor Tree” located in the hospital lobby. Each survivor is also honored with a ceremonial tree planted in his or her name to symbolize their fighting spirit and hope for years to come.
Northgate High School students Natalie Caylor and Spencer Thomas are Coweta County’s 2018 STAR Students. The two Northgate seniors tied for their school’s honor. Thomas chose Northgate High School AP European History teacher Lawrence Burns as his STAR Teacher, and Caylor chose Arbor Springs Elementary School REACH teacher Bobbi Deling as her STAR Teacher.

The Coweta Community Foundation has announced that SouthTowne Motors in Newnan has become a Colonnade Level Partner for 2018. As one of the Foundation’s Annual Partners, SouthTowne has agreed to serve as a partner for the Foundation’s four signature events: the Big Give Community Blood Drive in February, the Saturday Down South Sporting Clays and Southern Supper coming up in April, the Power of the Purse this October, and the Farm to Table dinner in November. “I have invested in the Coweta Community Foundation because I have the utmost trust in the board of directors and the direction they are moving in,” said Steve Mader, owner of Southtowne.
Five-year-old Newnanite “LJ” got the wish of a lifetime from Bert’s Big Adventure with the help of the Newnan Police Department. LJ, who has a chronic illness, wants to be a police officer. The NPD got him his very own uniform and motorcycle recently. He also got a police escort to the Mercedes Benz stadium.

The McClendon Group, CPA, PC will be moving from its 9 West Broad Street location in Downtown Newnan of almost 30 years in the near future. Rhonda D. McClendon, owner of The McClendon Group, says the company has no plans of closing after published reports last week indicated that Atlanta Trek, a full-service bicycle shop, would move into the West Broad Street location. The McClendon Group is the oldest, continually practicing CPA firm in Newnan.
The late Don Nixon and his wife, Cathe, along with Steve and Marie Swope, were the honorees at the recent Golden Eagle awards dinner held by the Flint River Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
If you’ve got a Citibank card, don’t expect to use it at Atlanta Range and Ordnance. Owner Gary DeGeorge has banned all “Citibank US products” from the gun range. Citibank CEO Mike Corbat recently sent out new guidelines saying retailers using the cards must adhere to three rules: 1. Don’t sell guns to those who have not passed background checks. 2. Restrict the sale of firearms to those under 21 years of age. 3. Don’t sell bump stocks or high-capacity magazines.
Clayton Hicks, who served for more than a decade as a Newnan city councilman, is resigning. He and his family are moving to Florida, where he has accepted a senior position with a bank there.
