From Staff Reports

Rivalry Week is here as the 2021 College Football regular season winds down.

The featured rivalry here locally will be on Saturday when the No. 1-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (11-0) invade Bobby Dodd Stadium to face Georgia Tech (3-8) in a noon kickoff on ABC. Georgia has won the last three meetings between the schools. The two schools did not meet in 2020 due to the pandemic.

This game, known as “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate,” is either the 113th meeting (according to UGA) or the 115th meeting (according to Tech). The two schools cannot agree on the series record as the 1943 and 1944 contests – during World War II – are in question. Tech won both of those games, but UGA says they do not count since Tech used players from a naval officer’s training program.

Other rivalry games taking place among ACC and SEC schools include Ole Miss at Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving night, North Carolina at North Carolina State on Friday, while on Saturday Florida State visits Florida, Virginia Tech is at Virginia, Kentucky travels to Louisville, the Iron Bowl has Alabama at Auburn and Clemson is at South Carolina.

Three Georgia schools are in their respective division championship playoffs. Kennesaw State (9-1) hosts Davidson on Saturday in the FCS 1st Round, while West Georgia (9-2) travels to Valdosta State (9-1) for the NCAA Division II 2nd Round.
