Cooler, wet weather moves into Coweta this week

Following an unseasonably warm and dry weather pattern last week, Coweta County is now expecting cooler temperatures and a chance rain throughout this work week beginning today.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City says a cold front will move through the area this afternoon bringing a 70 percent rain chance, wind gusts to 20 mph and falling temperatures. Around a quarter of an inch of rain is possible and there is a slight chance also for thunderstorms. Overnight, temperatures drop to 37 degrees as the wind changes from the southwest to the north.

Forecast highs for the week include 53 degrees on Tuesday, 59 Wednesday, 63 Thursday, and then 71 on Friday. Rain chances as of 6 a.m. Monday include 30 percent on Tuesday, 40 percent Wednesday, 30 percent Thursday and 50 percent on Friday.

MONDAY – A slight chance of showers before 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1pm and 2pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 67. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

MONDAY NIGHT – A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then a slight chance of showers between 11pm and midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. North wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

TUESDAY – A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 53. North wind around 5 mph becoming east in the afternoon.

TUESDAY NIGHT – A 50 percent chance of showers, mainly after 1am. Cloudy, with a low around 44. Calm wind.

WEDNESDAY – A 40 percent chance of showers, mainly before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the morning.

THURSDAY – A 30 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 63.

FRIDAY – A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71.

SATURDAY – A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 72.
