THE SKINNY – Coweta County recorded 2 COVID-related deaths on Friday, the 12th and 13th so far in the month of March.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Friday, March 12. Below is a summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 9 new COVID-19 cases on Friday with 2 deaths and 1 hospitalization.

The pair of deaths on Friday gives Coweta 13 for the month of March, or an average of 1.1 per day.

Case-wise, Coweta ended its streak of double-digit cases at 118 days with only 9 on Friday, which dated back to Nov. 14. It’s the 8th time in March the county has been below 20 cases in a single day.

In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 116 COVID cases (16.6 per day), 5 deaths and 7 hospitalizations.

For March, Coweta has posted 228 cases (19.0 per day) with 13 deaths (1.1 per day) and 17 hospitalizations (1.4 per day). For comparison, here are February’s numbers and per day averages – 886 cases (31.6 per day), 41 deaths (1.5 per day), and 39 hospitalizations (1.4 per day).

The age group portion of this Coweta report had software update issues and was not available.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.6 percent, and in the last two weeks has dropped to 6.1 percent.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8253 cases, 163 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 298 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 21st in deaths due to COVID.

GEORGIA CASES

On Friday, Georgia confirmed 1185 new COVID-19 cases, the 13th straight day below 2000. The last time that occurred was from Oct. 10-22. Other Friday numbers included 47 deaths, 77 hospitalizations and 16 ICU admits.

Three of four census categories slightly dropped on Friday. COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia stands at 1428 (down 30 from Thursday) which is 9.1 percent of all statewide hospital patients.  ICU bed occupancy dropped to 2409 (down 23) or 79.5 percent capacity. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state also dropped on Friday to 12,268 (down 27) or at 81.7 percent capacity.

Adult Ventilators in use increased Friday to 1128 (up 7) or 30.5 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.9 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 5.6 percent.

Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 833,665 cases, 15,831 deaths, 57,275 hospitalizations and 9343 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
