Thursday: Coweta records 11th COVID-related death in March

THE SKINNY – Coweta County recorded 1 COVID-related death on Thursday, the 11th so far in the month of March.
The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Thursday, March 11. Below is a summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
On Thursday, Coweta County confirmed 13 new COVID-19 cases with 1 death and 0 hospitalizations.
The single death on Thursday gives Coweta 11 for the month of March, or an average of 1.0 per day.
Case-wise, it’s the 7th time in March the county has been below 20 cases in a single day. However, Coweta did extend its streak of double-digit cases to 118 days, dating from Nov. 14.
In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 125 COVID cases (17.9 per day), 3 deaths and 11 hospitalizations.
For March, Coweta has posted 219 cases (19.9 per day) with 11 deaths (1.0 per day) and 16 hospitalizations (1.4 per day). For comparison, here are February’s numbers and per day averages – 886 cases (31.6 per day), 41 deaths (1.5 per day), and 39 hospitalizations (1.4 per day).
The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.6 percent, and in the last two weeks has dropped to 6.1 percent.
Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8244 cases, 161 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 297 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 21st in deaths due to COVID.
The age group of 55-64 year olds had the most new COVID cases on Thursday with 4.

GEORGIA CASES
Georgia confirmed 1209 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, the 12th straight day below 2000. The last time that occurred was from Oct. 11-22. Other Thursday numbers included 78 deaths, 104 hospitalizations and 27 ICU admits.
Two of four census categories slightly dropped on Thursday. COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia stands at 1458 (down 65 from Wednesday) which is 9.3 percent of all statewide hospital patients. Adult Ventilators in use also dropped to 1121 (down 18) or 30.3 percent capacity.
ICU bed occupancy increased to 2432 (up 33) or 80.3 percent capacity. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state increased Thursday to 12,295 (up 145) or at 80.7 percent capacity.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.9 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 5.8 percent.
Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 832,480 cases, 15,784 deaths, 57,198 hospitalizations and 9327 ICU admits since the pandemic began.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
