Friday: Coweta adds 39 cases of COVID, 1 death

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Friday, Dec. 4.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

On Friday, Coweta County confirmed 39 new cases of COVID-19 with 1 death and 0 hospitalizations. The death was of a 63-year-old female with underlying conditions.

Today’s 39 cases make it the 21st consecutive day Coweta has been in double-digits, the second-longest streak during the pandemic. Coweta had a stretch of 41 consecutive days (July 21-Aug. 30) with 10-or-more cases during the summer.

The age group of 15-24 year olds had 11 new cases today, the highest of any group.

To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 3779 cases, 70 deaths and 184 hospitalizations. The overall positive test rate is 8.1 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s continuing to rise at 11.9 percent.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (67 on Nov. 17); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia set a single-day record for cases on Friday with 4947, up 574 from Thursday’s total. The previous high was 4813 on July 24. Other numbers on Friday included 43 deaths, 212 hospitalizations and 43 ICU admits.

It’s the 11th time Georgia has been above 4000 cases and the 3rd consecutive day. It’s also the 4th straight day above 200 hospitalizations, the last time that happened was Aug. 19-22.

Presently, there are 2,366 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, which is 14.6 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is 12,764 or at 84.1 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2496 or 84.8 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 438,300 cases, 8922 deaths, 35,783 hospitalizations and 6642 ICU admits. The age group in Georgia with the most cases by far is 18-29 year olds with 106,998. The age group in Georgia with the most deaths is the over 80 year olds with 3310. And the age group with most hospitalizations in GA is 60-69 year olds with 7294.

The overall positive test rate is 9.3 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s also rising at 10.6 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,947 on Dec. 4); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
