Thursday: Coweta ties single-day high for deaths with 4

THE SKINNY – Coweta County reported 4 COVID-related deaths on Thursday, tying the county’s daily high mark.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Thursday, March 4. Below is a summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

On Thursday, Coweta County confirmed 25 new cases of COVID-19 with a record-tying 4 deaths and 1 hospitalization. It’s the 6th time Coweta has recorded its high of 4 deaths in a day, the last came on Feb. 18. In addition, it’s the 11th straight day at least 1 hospitalization has been reported, the county’s longest streak since the pandemic began. In that span, 17 hospitalizations have occurred.

Case-wise, Coweta extended its streak of double-digit cases on Thursday to 111 days, dating from Nov. 14.

In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 252 COVID cases (36.0 per day), 10 deaths and 11 hospitalizations.

For March, Coweta has posted 94 cases (23.5 per day) with 8 deaths (2.0 per day) and 5 hospitalizations (1.25 per day). Though early in the month, here are February’s numbers for comparison – 886 cases (31.6 per day), 41 deaths (1.46 per day), and 39 hospitalizations (1.39 per day).

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.7 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 8.0 percent (lowest since Nov. 23).

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8119 cases, 158 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 286 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 21st in deaths due to COVID.

The age group of 45-54 year olds had the most new COVID cases on Thursday with 6, followed by the 55-64 group with 5.

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed 1796 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, its 5th day in-a-row below 2000. Other numbers included 113 deaths (36th time with 100-or-more deaths in a day), 143 hospitalizations and 35 ICU admits.

Two of four census categories dropped slightly from Wednesday. COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia stands at 1761 (down 79 from Wednesday) which is 11.0 percent of all statewide hospital patients. It’s the lowest number since late November. Adult Ventilators are at 1146 (down 1) or 31.0 percent capacity.

ICU bed occupancy rose on Thursday to 2483 (up 14) or 81.1 percent capacity. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state also rose to 12,510 (up 59) or at 82.0 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.1 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 7.0 percent.

Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 824,804 cases, 15,462 deaths, 56,512 hospitalizations and 9221 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
