Tuesday: Coweta adds 70 cases, Georgia sets new record

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Tuesday, Dec. 22.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
On Tuesday, Coweta County confirmed 70 new cases of COVID-19 with 4 hospitalizations and 0 deaths. It’s the third-highest single-day total for cases, trailing only 97 on Dec. 20 and 72 on Dec. 18.
Coweta has now been above 30 cases for 14 straight days and has posted double-digit cases for 39 consecutive days, just 2 days shy of tying the county’s mark of 41 during the summer. Coweta’s 70 cases today pushed the monthly cumulative total to 1033.
In the past 24 hours, the age group of 35-44 year olds had 15 new cases of COVID, the highest of any group.

As mentioned above, Coweta has 1033 cases or 46.9 per day with 4 deaths and 25 hospitalizations in the month of December. The 46.9 per day average will likely set a new high with 9 days left in the month. The previous daily rate high average was 30.7 in August.
To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 4686 cases, 72 deaths (with an additional 5 probable deaths) and 202 hospitalizations. Coweta ranks 24th among all Georgia counties for most cumulative cases.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 8.9 percent, and in the last two weeks, is rising at 14.1 percent.
GEORGIA CASES
Georgia set a new single-day high for cases on Tuesday with 6203, the second time since Dec. 18 to do so. The previous high mark was 6092 recorded 4 days ago.
Other Tuesday numbers included 50 deaths, 334 hospitalizations and 48 ICU admits. It’s the most ICU admits since 51 on Sept. 2.
Presently, there are 3734 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, which is 23.0 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is 12,670 or at 83.8 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2579 or 87.7 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use in GA is presently at 1314 or 36.8 percent capacity.
Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 518,902 cases, 9503 deaths, 39,836 hospitalizations and 7103 ICU admits.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 9.7 percent, and in the last two weeks, it stands at 13.4 percent.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (6203 on Dec. 22); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
