Friday: Coweta, Georgia both set single-daily highs for deaths

THE SKINNY – Both Coweta County and Georgia reported single-day highs for deaths due to COVID-19 on Friday. Coweta tied its high with 4 deaths, while Georgia recorded 184.
The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Friday, Feb. 12. Below is data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
On Friday, Coweta County confirmed 24 new cases of COVID-19, tied its single-day high of 4 deaths for the 2nd straight day and reported 3 hospitalizations. Coweta has now recorded 4 deaths on 4 occasions – Aug. 13, Feb. 6, Feb. 11 and Feb. 12. That is now 19 COVID-related deaths in the past 8 days and 31 in the last 18 days.
Case-wise, Coweta has seen double-digit cases for 91 consecutive days, dating from Nov. 14.
For the month of February, Coweta has posted 397 cases (33.1 per day), 24 deaths and 13 hospitalizations. Coweta’s 24 deaths already is the 2nd-highest total for a month after just 12 days, trailing only 31 in January.
The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks has dropped to 9.6 percent.
Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 7536 cases, 133 deaths (with an additional 9 probable deaths) and 259 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 25th in deaths due to COVID.
Yesterday, the age group of 55-64 year olds had the most new COVID cases with 8.

GEORGIA CASES
Georgia confirmed 2456 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, but the big story continues to be deaths with a single-day high of 184 reported. It’s the 28th time Georgia has had 100-or-more deaths in a single day. Other Friday numbers included 258 hospitalizations and 24 ICU admits.
Presently, 3090 people (down 114 from Thursday) in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 19.0 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Friday is at 12,797 (down 116) or at 83.5 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is at 2648 (down 3) or 85.6 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use is at 1373 (down 9) or 37.1 percent capacity.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 10.7 percent.
To date, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 786,277 cases, 13,856 deaths, 53,111 hospitalizations and 8741 ICU admits since the pandemic began.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
