Tuesday: Coweta with 7 new cases, 1 death

The 3 p.m. Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Today, Coweta County confirmed 7 new cases of COVID-19 including 1 death and 0 hospitalizations. The death was of a 90-plus year-old black male with no underlying conditions. It marks the 7th death in Coweta due to the virus in the month of September. That number will likely increase in the near future with three additional deaths listed on today’s Long-Term Care Facility Report from Avalon Health and Rehabilitation. Two of the three deaths have not been published in the Daily Status Report as of this afternoon.

The 7 cases on Tuesday, coupled with 2 on Monday, makes it the first time since July 12-13 (7-9) that Coweta had consecutive days with single-digit cases. Also, Tuesday’s cases move the Coweta cumulative total to 2346, up from Monday’s sum of 2239. Other cumulative totals to date include 33 deaths and 111 hospitalizations.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (66 on Aug. 26); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).

Statewide on Tuesday, Georgia’s cases rose by over 900 from Monday to 1543. Other numbers included 26 deaths, 51 hospitalizations and 11 ICU admits. It’s the 24th consecutive day below 3,000 cases and the 3rd straight day below 2,000 cases (the first time since June 25-26-27).

Presently, there are 1,612 people hospitalized in Georgia with COVID-19, down 47 from Monday.

Overall, Georgia now stands at 285,350 cases, 6070 deaths, 25,589 hospitalizations and 4698 ICU admits.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,813 on July 24); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
