Wednesday: Coweta surpasses most cases, deaths in a month

THE SKINNY – Coweta County surpassed the previous monthly high for COVID-19 cases on Wednesday and now stands at 1650 cumulative cases in January. Georgia eclipsed 12,000 deaths with 139 today.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Wednesday, Jan. 27.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 33 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, including 1 death and 2 hospitalizations. Today’s cases push January’s total to 1650, which betters the previous high of 1620 in December. Coweta topped its monthly high for deaths last week and now stands at 28 this month.

Regarding cases, Coweta extended its consecutive days streak to 75 with double-digit cases and has also posted more than 20 for 30 straight days.  The 1 death confirmed today is now the 24th in Coweta due to COVID-19 in the past 18 days.

The age group of 35-44 year-olds had the highest number of COVID cases on Wednesday with 12.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 6923 cases, 106 deaths (with an additional 7 probable deaths) and 241 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th among all Georgia counties for most cumulative cases and 29th in deaths.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks, is at 13.7 percent.

GEORGIA CASES

On Wednesday, Georgia confirmed 4074 new cases of COVID-19 including 139 deaths (9th-highest daily total), 332 hospitalizations and 42 ICU admits. It’s the 18th day since the pandemic began that Georgia has had 100-or-more deaths due to COVID and pushed the state’s overall total over 12,000.

Presently, 4741 people in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 28.0 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Wednesday is at 13,135 or at 85.2 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is at 2725 or 90.4 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use is at 1569 or 42.3 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 731,826 cases, 12,135 deaths, 49,247 hospitalizations and 8290 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 15.3 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (170 on Jan. 19); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
