Friday: Coweta reaches 100 deaths due to COVID

THE SKINNY – Coweta County reported 2 deaths due to COVID-19 on Friday, pushing the cumulative total since the pandemic began to 100. Statewide, Georgia recorded its 2nd-highest number of deaths with 159.
The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Friday, Jan. 22.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
On Friday, Coweta County confirmed 50 new cases of COVID-19, 2 deaths and 1 hospitalization. The 2 deaths brings the county’s total number to 100. It’s also the 18th death in the past 11 days and 22nd in January, the highest of any month.
With today’s 50 cases, the number of double-digit cases has reached 70 consecutive days, dating from Nov. 14, and now 25 straight days with more than 20 cases.
In January, the county has posted 1347 cases for an average of 61.2 per day. There have been 22 deaths and 23 hospitalizations. The 1347 cases have surpassed the total for every month except December (1620) while the 22 deaths have surpassed the previous monthly-high of 21 set in September.
The age group of 45-54 year-olds had the highest number of COVID cases on Friday with 14.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 6620 cases, 100 deaths (with an additional 7 probable deaths) and 238 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 25th among all Georgia counties for most cumulative cases and 30th in deaths.
The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.7 percent, and in the last two weeks, is at 14.6 percent.
GEORGIA CASES
Georgia confirmed 6442 new cases of COVID-19 including 159 deaths, 270 hospitalizations and 44 ICU admits. The 159 deaths are the 2nd-highest total for a single day and the 15th time above 100.
Georgia has now been above 4000 cases for 25 consecutive days, dating from Dec. 29.
Presently, 5,196 people in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 30.4 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Friday is at 13,237 or at 86.1 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is at 2755 or 91.1 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use today reached a record-high at 1663 or 45.2 percent capacity.
Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 707,750 cases, 11,670 deaths, 47,950 hospitalizations and 8136 ICU admits since the pandemic began.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.1 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 16.2 percent.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (170 on Jan. 19); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
