THE SKINNY – Georgia increased its overall days of 100-or-more deaths due to COVID-19 to 14 on Thursday. In addition, Coweta County reported 1 death which is now 16 in the past 10 days.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Thursday, Jan. 21.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 43 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday with 1 death and 1 hospitalization. The 43 cases pushes the consecutive days to 69 with double-digit cases, dating from Nov. 14, and 24 straight days with more than 20 cases.

In January, the county has posted 1297 cases for an average of 61.8 per day. There have been 20 deaths and 22 hospitalizations. The 1297 cases have surpassed the total for every month except December (1620) while the 20 deaths is one short of the monthly-high of 21 set in September.

The age group of 25-34 year-olds had the highest number of COVID cases on Thursday with 11.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 6570 cases, 98 deaths (with an additional 7 probable deaths) and 237 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 25th among all Georgia counties for most cumulative cases and 31st in deaths.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.7 percent, and in the last two weeks, is at 15.3 percent.

GEORGIA CASES

On Thursday, Georgia confirmed 5908 new cases of COVID-19 including 100 deaths, 369 hospitalizations and 51 ICU admits. Georgia has now been above 4000 cases for 24 consecutive days, dating from Dec. 29, and it’s the 14th time the state has had 100 deaths-or-more in a day.

Presently, 5,332 people in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 31.0 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Thursday is at 13,253 or 86.2 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2745 or 91.7 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use is at 1642 or 44.8 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 701,308 cases, 11,511 deaths, 47,680 hospitalizations and 8092 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.1 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 16.7 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (170 on Jan. 19); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
