THE SKINNY – Coweta County reported 2 COVID-related deaths on Monday, the 14th and 15th in March.
The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Monday, March 15. Below is a summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
On Monday, Coweta County confirmed 9 new COVID-19 cases with 2 deaths and 1 hospitalization.
Monday’s deaths are the 14th and 15th in the month of March for an average of 1.0 per day. The single hospitalization marks at least 1 COVID-related admit in 20 of the past 22 days here in Coweta.
Case-wise, Monday’s 9 cases was the 3rd time in the past 4 days below 10 and 11th time this month below 20.
In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 102 COVID cases (14.6 per day), with 6 deaths and 8 hospitalizations.
For March, Coweta has posted 262 cases (17.5 per day) with 15 deaths (1.0 per day) and 21 hospitalizations (1.4 per day). For comparison, here are February’s numbers and per day averages – 886 cases (31.6 per day), 41 deaths (1.5 per day), and 39 hospitalizations (1.4 per day).
The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.6 percent, and in the last two weeks has dropped to 5.7 percent (lowest since Oct. 24).
Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8287 cases, 165 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 302 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 20th in deaths due to COVID.
The age group of 55-64 year olds had the most new COVID cases on Monday with 4.

GEORGIA CASES
Georgia confirmed 860 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, the 16th consecutive day below 2000. The last time that occurred was Oct. 7-22. Also on Monday, the state had 47 deaths, 22 hospitalizations and 3 ICU admits.
Three of four census categories increased numbers-wise on Monday. ICU bed occupancy rose to 2294 (up 18 from Sunday) or 76.5 percent capacity. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state increased to 11,620 (up 71) or at 76.7 percent capacity. And Adult Ventilators in use rose to 1083 (up 10) or 29.3 percent capacity.
COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia continued to fall, now standing at 1370 (down 22) which is 9.3 percent of all statewide hospital patients.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.9 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 5.2 percent.
Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 836,344 cases, 15,918 deaths, 57,383 hospitalizations and 9360 ICU admits since the pandemic began.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
