Weekend: Coweta adds 52 cases of COVID, 1 death

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for the weekend of Dec. 5 and 6.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed a total of 52 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend with 1 death and 0 hospitalizations. The death was posted Saturday of a 69-year-old white male with no underlying conditions.

Coweta recorded 26 cases on Saturday and again on Sunday, running the consecutive day streak of double-digit cases to 23. It’s the second-longest streak during the pandemic. Coweta had a stretch of 41 consecutive days (July 21-Aug. 30) with 10-or-more cases during the summer. For the month of December, the county has registered 178 cases for an average of 29.7 per day with 3 deaths and 7 hospitalizations.

The age group of 35-44 year olds had 10 new cases over the weekend, the highest of any group.

To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 3831 cases, 71 deaths and 184 hospitalizations. The overall positive test rate is 8.1 percent, and in the last two weeks, is at 11.7 percent.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (67 on Nov. 17); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed 5522 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, including 49 deaths, 256 hospitalizations and 34 ICU admits. After three straight days of over 4000 cases, the state confirmed 3717 on Saturday and 1805 on Sunday. And Saturday’s 218 hospitalizations were the 5th day in-a-row of over 200.

Presently, there are 2454 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, which is 15.8 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is 12,140 or at 80.6 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2452 or 83.4 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 443,822 cases, 8971 deaths, 36,039 hospitalizations and 6676 ICU admits. The age group in Georgia with the most cases by far is 18-29 year olds with 108,002. The age group in Georgia with the most deaths is the over 80 year olds with 3332. And the age group with most hospitalizations in GA is 60-69 year olds with 7347.

The overall positive test rate is 9.3 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s also rising at 10.8 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,947 on Dec. 4); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
