Monday: Coweta reports 27 new cases of COVID-19

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Monday, Jan. 4.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 27 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday with 0 deaths and 0 hospitalizations. It’s the lowest daily number of cases in a week (13 on Dec. 28) and follows a weekend when the county posted a total of 136 cases.

Coweta has now seen double-digit cases for a record 52 consecutive days, dating from Nov. 14.

To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 5533 cases, 78 deaths (with an additional 6 probable deaths) and 216 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 23rd among all Georgia counties for most cumulative cases.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 9.9 percent, and in the last two weeks, is rising at a record-high of 20.6 percent.

GEORGIA CASES

On Monday, Georgia confirmed 4030 new cases of COVID-19 with 7 deaths, 112 hospitalizations and 5 ICU admits. It’s the 28th time in the past 29 days that the state has seen 3000-or-more cases in a single day.

Presently, a record-high 5,124 people in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 31.2 percent of all statewide hospital patients. By comparison during the spike in cases over the summer, the highest number of COVID patients hospitalized in a single day was 3200 on July 30.

The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Sunday is 12,757 or at 84.3 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2669 or 90.2 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use in GA is presently at 1497 or 41.5 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 591,106 cases, 9900 deaths, 42,595 hospitalizations and 7471 ICU admits.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.3 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is rising at 18.4 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (8719 on Jan. 1); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
