New Car Tag System Coming

From Special Reports
The State of Georgia will be upgrading the title and tag registration system over the Memorial Day weekend.
The new system, called “DRIVES,” is an internet-based system and has been in development for over two years now. Tag Office staff have recently completed computer-based training and are also attending required two and three day State sponsored training classes. The State will continue training and testing through the Memorial Day weekend.
Due to the complete shutting down of the current system (GRATIS) on the afternoon of Thursday, May 23, the Tag Office will be closing early to balance and run all necessary reports. All tag offices statewide will be closed Friday, May 24 and reopen Tuesday, May 28 running the new “DRIVES” program.
Vehicle owners with renewal dates in May or June who normally renew in person are encouraged to do so prior to May 20 to avoid delays. During June, customers may experience longer than normal wait times when visiting the tag office.
