Prep Football: Season completed for all Coweta teams

The 2022 high school football season is officially over for the six Coweta County schools.

Northgate High and Heritage School were the last two teams standing after the first week of state playoff action. However, both fell in the second round to higher-ranked opponents last Friday.

Northgate lost to Dutchtown, 41-14, at Hampton in the 5A second round. The Vikings ended the season with a 5-7 overall record but won four of their last six games to earn a second place finish in GHSA Region 3, 5A. It was their first state playoff appearance since 2018 as coach Mike McDonald saw his team improve from a 2-8 record a year ago. Northgate advanced a week earlier with a win over Arabia Mountain in first round action.

Heritage School saw its season come to an end in Milledgeville on Friday with a 42-7 loss to top-ranked John Milledge Academy. The Hawks had advanced to the GIAA 3A quarterfinals with a first round win over Lakeview Academy. Head coach Jake Copeland and his staff did a tremendous job in 2022 as the Hawks finished 8-4 overall, quite an improvement following a winless 2021 season.

East Coweta ended its season at 6-5 following a 44-33 loss to always-tough Camden County at Kingsland in the GHSA 7A first round on Nov. 12.

Trinity Christian, the defending GHSA 1A Private Champions, finished their first year in 4A at 6-5 overall after losing on the road to Wayne County, 31-13, in round one, also on Nov. 12.

Newnan (4-6) and Central Christian (2-8) did not reach the state playoffs this season.
