Saturday: Coweta adds 97 cases, 2 deaths, 3 hospitalizations

THE SKINNY – Coweta County posted its 4th-highest single-day total for cases on Saturday with 97.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Saturday, Feb. 27. Below is a brief summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

On Saturday, Coweta County confirmed 97 new cases of COVID-19 with 2 deaths and 3 hospitalizations.

The 97 cases ties for the 4th-highest total in a day, the most since 114 on Jan. 23. It extends the county’s streak of double-digit cases to 106 days, dating from Nov. 14.

Coweta’s 2 deaths pushes its cumulative total to 150 since the pandemic began. In addition, the 3 hospitalizations sets a new monthly high of 38, bettering the previous high of 36 set  in December.

In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 257 COVID cases (36.7 per day), 7 deaths and 11 hospitalizations.

For the month of February, Coweta has posted 871 cases (32.3 per day), and record-highs of 41 deaths and 38 hospitalizations. Coweta, by comparison, posted 1866 cases or 60.2 per day with 31 deaths and 32 hospitalizations in January.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 9.4 percent.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8010 cases, 150 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 280 hospitalizations since the coronavirus pandemic started. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 22nd in deaths due to COVID.

The age group of 35-44 had the most new COVID cases on Saturday with 19, followed closely by the group 25-34 with 18.

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed 2153 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday with 60 deaths, 185 hospitalizations and 28 ICU admits.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.1 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 7.6 percent.

To date, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 816,973 cases, 15,067 deaths, 55,963 hospitalizations and 9115 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
