Saturday: Coweta records 17 cases of COVID-19, 3 deaths, 1 hospitalization

The 3 p.m. Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Saturday, Sept. 12.

Today, Coweta County confirmed 17 new cases of COVID-19 with 3 deaths and 1 hospitalization. The 3 deaths were of an 85-year-old female, an 83-year-old male and a 90-plus year-old female. All three deaths were categorized as “unknown” regarding underlying conditions. This week, Coweta posted 6 deaths (Sunday-Saturday), the highest weekly total since the pandemic began, moving past the previous high of 5 deaths last week. In September, Coweta has now had 11 deaths, 4 more than the previous monthly high of 7 in August.

Saturday’s cases move the Coweta cumulative total to 2396, up from Friday’s sum of 2379. The overall positive rate for tests in Coweta is 8.8 percent. Other cumulative totals to date include 37 deaths and 113 hospitalizations.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (66 on Aug. 26); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).

Across the state on Saturday, Georgia broke a string of 6 straight days below 2,000 cases with 2124, some 466 more than Friday’s total. It does mean that Georgia has been below 3,000 cases for a single day  28 consecutive days. Other Saturday numbers included 41 deaths, 164 hospitalizations and 24 ICU admits.

Presently, there are 1545 people hospitalized in Georgia with COVID-19, down 9 from Friday.

Overall, Georgia now stands at 292,905 cases, 6287 deaths, 26,327 hospitalizations and 4818 ICU admits. The overall rate for positive tests is 10.3 percent.
