The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Saturday, Jan. 9.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed its 2nd-highest number of cases in a day with 121 on Saturday. In addition, Coweta added 1 death and 2 hospitalizations. It’s only the 2nd time the county has been over 100 cases in a day, the other was the single-day high of 160 on Dec. 31. Coweta has now seen double-digit cases for a record 57 consecutive days, dating from Nov. 14.

Only nine days into the month of January, the county has posted 610 cases for an average of 67.8 per day. There have been 4 deaths and 12 hospitalizations. The 610 cases have surpassed the totals for the entire months of March (41), April (154), May (222), June (250), September (379) and October (385).

The age group of 45-54 year-olds had the highest number of COVID cases on Saturday with 29. The 55-64 year olds were next with 20 cases.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 5883 cases, 82 deaths (with an additional 6 probable deaths) and 227 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 23rd among all Georgia counties for most cumulative cases.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, is at a record-high of 21.3 percent.

GEORGIA CASES

On Saturday, Georgia also confirmed its 2nd-highest number of cases in a day with 8957. Other Saturday numbers included 100 deaths, 323 hospitalizations and 37 ICU admits. Today’s cases follow the record number from Friday of 10,379. Also, the 100 deaths was the 6th-highest total for a day. The last time Georgia at least 100 deaths was on Sept. 1 with 101.

It’s the 33rd time in the past 34 days that the state has seen 3000-or-more cases in a single day.

Presently, a record-high 5,509 people in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 32.2 percent of all statewide hospital patients. By comparison during the spike in cases over the summer, the highest number of COVID patients hospitalized in a single day was 3200 on July 30.

The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Saturday is 13,199 or at 86.6 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2702 or 91.2 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use in GA is presently at 1554 or 43.3 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 629,204 cases, 10,280 deaths, 44,510 hospitalizations and 7727 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.7 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 19.7 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
