THE SKINNY – Coweta County tied its single-day high for COVID-related deaths on Thursday with 4, the 5th time it has occurred since the pandemic began.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Thursday, Feb. 18. Below is data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 35 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, tied its single-day high with 4 deaths and recorded 3 hospitalizations. It’s the 5th time the county has posted 4 deaths in a single day and the 4th time in February (Aug. 13, Feb. 6-11-12-18). And Coweta tied its monthly record with 31 COVID-related deaths, matching January’s total.

Case-wise, Coweta’s 35 on Thursday extended its streak of double-digit cases to 97 days, dating from Nov. 14.

In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 178 COVID cases (25.4 per day), 11 deaths and 7 hospitalizations.

For the month of February, Coweta has posted 551 cases (30.6 per day), 31 deaths and 17 hospitalizations.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks has risen slightly to 9.5 percent.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 7690 cases, 140 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 263 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 25th in deaths due to COVID.

The age group of 15-24 year olds had the most new COVID cases with 7 on Thursday.

GEORGIA CASES

On Thursday, Georgia confirmed 2238 new cases of COVID-19 with 104 deaths, 293 hospitalizations and 31 ICU admits. It is the 31st time that Georgia has posted 100-or-more COVID-related deaths in a single day.

Presently, 2593 people (down 52 from Wednesday) in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 16.0 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Thursday is at 12,580 (down 77) or at 82.1 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is at 2604 (up 8) or 84.4 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use is at 1291 (down 19) or 34.9 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 9.5 percent.

To date, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 798,785 cases, 14,358 deaths, 54,173 hospitalizations and 8869 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
