Along with her anxious and eager assistant, Annelle, Truvy Jones styles the hair of many of the women in Chinquapin, Louisiana: wealthy widow Clairee Belcher, local curmudgeon Ouiser Boudreaux (“I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a bad mood for forty years”), compassionate career woman M’Lynn and her daughter Shelby, whose engagement is the talk of the town. The women of Chinquapin make their way over life’s many tragedies and joys and find comfort in each other.
