Thursday: Coweta adds 50 cases of COVID, 1 death

The 3 p.m. Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Thursday, Nov. 19.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 50 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday including 1 death and 0 hospitalizations. The death was of an 83-year-old white female with no underlying conditions. It is the 3rd COVID-related death in Coweta this month.

In the past 3 days, Coweta has recorded 157 cases – the highest 3-day total since 160 from Aug. 26-28. This week beginning Sunday, the county has posted 189 cases (37.8 per day) and 2 deaths, which is the most since 258 the week of Aug. 23-29.

The age group of 45-54 year olds in Coweta had the most new cases today with 12, followed by 35-44 and 55-64 year olds, both with 9 new cases. Coweta now has 289 cases during the month of November for a daily rate of 16.1. Last month, October’s daily rate was 12.4 cases.

Other surrounding counties and their Thursday increases – Carroll added 29 cases, Fayette 27, Spalding 18, Troup 11, Heard 2 and Meriwether 0.

To date, Coweta has registered cumulative totals of 3352 cases, 66 deaths and 159 hospitalizations. The overall positive test rate is 7.8 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s 7.7 percent.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (67 on Nov. 17); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed 2661 cases on Thursday, up 147 from yesterday’s totals. Also today, Georgia had 33 deaths (down 7), 111 hospitalizations (down 117) and 21 ICU admits (down 26).

Georgia has now had three consecutive days of 2500 cases or more, the last time that happened was Aug. 20-22.

Presently, there are 1,765 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, up 10 from Wednesday and is 11.2 percent of statewide hospital beds. ICU bed occupancy went down on Thursday, dropping 388 from yesterday to 2406 and is at 82.3 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 396,641 cases, 8569 deaths, 33,778 hospitalizations and 6327 ICU admits. The overall positive test rate is 9.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s 8.3 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,813 on July 24); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
