Thursday: Coweta confirms 29 cases, 2 hospitalizations

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Thursday, Dec. 3.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed on Thursday 29 new cases of COVID-19 with 2 hospitalizations and 0 deaths. It is the 20th consecutive day that the county reached double-digit cases. And with 2 hospitalizations, that’s 19 in the past 11 days.

The age groups of 25-34 and 35-44 year olds each had 7 new cases today, the highest among all Coweta groups.

Other neighboring counties and their respective case additions on Thursday:  Fulton added 393 cases (4 deaths), Fayette 41 (1 death), Carroll 22, Troup 9 (2 deaths), Spalding 8 (1 death), Meriwether 6 and Heard 5.

To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 3740 cases, 69 deaths and 184 hospitalizations. The overall positive test rate is 8.0 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s rising at 11.3 percent.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (67 on Nov. 17); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).

GEORGIA CASES

On Thursday, Georgia again was above 4000 cases with 4373 (up 322 from Wednesday’s totals). It’s the 10th time the state has been above the 4000-mark in a single day. Other numbers on Thursday included 49 deaths (up 17), 245 hospitalizations and 30 ICU admits. The 245 hospitalizations were the 3rd straight day above 200, the last time that happened was Aug. 19-20-21.

Presently, there are 2,300 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, which is 14.0 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is 12,923 or at 85.3 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2519 or 85.4 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 433,353 cases, 8879 deaths, 35,571 hospitalizations and 6599 ICU admits. The age group in Georgia with the most cases by far is 18-29 year olds with 105,968. The age group in Georgia with the most deaths is over 80 years old with 3297.

The overall positive test rate is 9.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s 9.8 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,813 on July 24); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
