Thursday: Coweta reports single-day highs of 57 cases, 4 deaths

The 3 p.m. Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Thursday, Aug. 13.

Today, Coweta County confirmed single-day highs in two categories – cases and deaths. Coweta had 57 new cases on Thursday, bettering the previous high of 48 on July 23. And 4 deaths were recorded, up one from the 3 posted on May 21. The deaths were of a 48-year-old black male, a 29-year-old black male, a 71-year-old white female and an 80-year-old black female. It was unknown if any of the four people who died had underlying health conditions.

Coweta also had 2 hospitalizations today. Presently for the month of August, Coweta has recorded 329 cases or an average of 25.3 per day. It’s the 24th consecutive day Coweta has seen double-digit new cases.

Cumulative totals to date for Coweta include 1625 cases, 26 deaths and 103 hospitalizations.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (57 on Aug. 13); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).

Statewide, Georgia’s numbers across the COVID-19 board dropped slightly. Georgia recorded 2515 cases, 82 deaths, 202 hospitalizations and 34 ICU admits Thursday. This was 38th consecutive day the state has recorded 2,000-or-more COVID-19 cases in a single day.

Presently, there are 2807 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID-19, which is a decrease of 58 from yesterday.

Regarding hospitalizations … Among Critical Care Beds in Georgia, 86 percent are in use (14 percent available). Among General Inpatient Beds in Georgia, 83 percent are in use (17 percent available). Among Total Emergency Rooms in Georgia, 50 percent are in use (50 percent available). The total of Adult Ventilators in Georgia is 2,872. Presently, 1,249 (43 percent) are in use and 1,623 (57 percent) are available.

Overall, Georgia now stands at 228,668 cumulative cases, 4538 deaths, 21,581 hospitalizations and 3963 ICU admits.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,813 on July 24); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
