The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 26.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

On Thanksgiving Day, Coweta County confirmed 42 new cases of COVID-19 with 1 death and 4 hospitalizations. The death was of a 61-year-old male with underlying conditions.

It’s the 12th consecutive day the county has been in double-digits for cases. The 42 cases marks the 5th time in November that Coweta posted 40-or-more in a single day, which only trails August when the county recorded 10 days of 40-or-more. The 4 hospitalizations were the most since 5 on Sept. 16. It’s also the 3rd straight day of 3 hospitalizations-or-more which is the only time that has happened since the pandemic started.

The age group of 35-44 year olds had the most new cases in the county on Thursday with 10.

Other surrounding counties and case increases on Thursday – Fulton added 230 cases (3 deaths), Carroll 30, Fayette 30, Troup 21 (1 death), Spalding 18, Meriwether 3 and Heard 2.

For the month of November, Coweta has posted 537 cases for a daily rate of 20.7. There have been 5 deaths and 23 hospitalizations. This month is the 3rd-highest in cases for Coweta since the start of the pandemic, trailing August with 953 and July with 629.

To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 3550 cases, 68 deaths and 175 hospitalizations. The overall positive test rate is 7.9 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s 9.7 percent.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (67 on Nov. 17); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed 2907 cases on Thanksgiving, up 549 from Wednesday. Other totals included 22 deaths (down 24), 174 hospitalizations (up 29) and 29 ICU admits (up 9).

Presently, there are 1,959 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, up 9 from Wednesday which is 13.6 percent of statewide patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is 11,261 or at 75.1 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy went down on Thursday, dropping by 37 from Wednesday to 2380, which is 81.4 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 413,909 cases, 8716 deaths, 34,587 hospitalizations and 6463 ICU admits. The age group in Georgia with the most cases by far is 18-29 year olds with 101,990, followed by 30-39 year olds with 67,464.

The overall positive test rate is 9.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s 7.7 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,813 on July 24); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
