Thursday: Coweta, state set daily hospitalizations records

Both Coweta County and Georgia set daily COVID-related hospitalization records on Thursday, per the Georgia Department of Public Health.

According to yesterday’s daily report from the GaDPH, Coweta had 26 hospitalizations which broke the previous high of 25, set on Sept. 14, 2021. Statewide, Georgia posted 646 hospitalizations which surpassed the old high of 611 on Jan. 6, 2021. 

Another high number reported on Thursday was the statewide in-patient hospital beds in use. The total yesterday was 13,725 or 88.3 percent of the state’s capacity, making it the 8th-highest daily total since the pandemic began.

Coweta County confirmed 173 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, pushing January’s total over 4,000. With less than a week remaining in the month, Coweta has now accumulated a record-high 4,128 cases this month for an average of 152.8 per day. Also, the county had 1 death on Thursday for a total of 14 in January. Hospitalization-wise, Coweta now stands at 197 for the month, just two shy of the record 199 set in September 2021.
