Thursday: Coweta’s February COVID-related death total rises to 39

THE SKINNY – Coweta County recorded 3 COVID-related deaths on Thursday which pushed February’s record total to 39.
The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Thursday, Feb. 25. Below is data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
On Thursday, Coweta County confirmed 18 new COVID-19 cases with 3 deaths and 3 hospitalizations. The 3 deaths push February’s record total to 39 and is the county’s 15th in the last 10 days. In addition, Coweta has recorded 8 days of 3-or-more deaths this month.
Case-wise, Thursday’s 18 cases extended Coweta’s double-digits streak to 104 days, dating from Nov. 14.
In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 177 COVID cases (25.3 per day), 8 deaths and 12 hospitalizations.
For the month of February, Coweta has posted 728 cases (29.1 per day), 39 deaths and 33 hospitalizations. Coweta, by comparison, posted 1866 cases or 60.2 per day with 31 deaths and 32 hospitalizations in January.
The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.7 percent, and in the last two weeks has dropped slightly to 9.1 percent.
Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 7867 cases, 148 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 275 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 22nd in deaths due to COVID.
The age groups of 35-44 and 45-54 year olds had the most new COVID cases on Thursday with 5.

GEORGIA CASES
Georgia confirmed 2139 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday with 107 deaths, 210 hospitalizations and 37 ICU admits. It’s the 34th time the state has posted 100-or-more COVID-related deaths in a single day. Georgia will likely surpass the 15,000 death total later today, now standing at 14,989 cumulative deaths since the pandemic began.
Three patient census number categories dropped slightly on Thursday. ICU bed occupancy dropped to 2489 (down 17 from Wednesday) or 81.3 percent capacity. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is at 12,605 (down 46) or at 82.7 percent capacity. COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia stands at 2107 (down 58) which is 13.2 percent of all statewide hospital patients. It’s the lowest number since late November.
Adult Ventilators use remained the same at 1,208 or 32.8 percent capacity.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 8.1 percent.
To date, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 812,612 cases, 14,989 deaths, 55,604 hospitalizations and 9036 ICU admits since the pandemic began.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
