Tuesday: Coweta adds 22 new cases of COVID, 1 hospitalization

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Tuesday, Dec. 1.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 22 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday with 1 hospitalization and 0 deaths. It marks the 18th consecutive day that the county has reached double-digits in cases. The age groups of 25-34 and 55-64 year olds each had 5 new cases today, the highest among all Coweta groups.

Other surrounding counties and their respective case increases from Monday’s totals include: Fulton added 315 cases, Fayette 40, Spalding 16, Carroll 15 (1 death), Troup 11, Meriwether 2 and Heard 1.

To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 3675 cases, 68 deaths and 178 hospitalizations. The overall positive test rate is 8.0 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s 10.1 percent.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (67 on Nov. 17); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).

GEORGIA CASES

On Tuesday, Georgia confirmed 2796 cases of COVID-19 which is up 1264 from Monday’s totals. Other Tuesday numbers include 20 deaths (up 20), 239 hospitalizations (up 197) and 39 ICU admits (up 35). The 239 hospitalizations is the most in a single day since 271 on Aug. 15.

Presently, there are 2,267 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, which is 14.4 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is 12,268 (up 771 from yesterday) or at 81.6 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2,475 (up 105) or 84.5 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 424,929 cases, 8798 deaths, 35,063 hospitalizations and 6536 ICU admits. The age group in Georgia with the most cases by far is 18-29 year olds with 104,282, followed by 30-39 year olds with 69,229.

The overall positive test rate is 9.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s 8.4 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,813 on July 24); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
