Tuesday: Coweta records 24 new cases, 2 deaths, 1 hospitalization

THE SKINNY – Coweta County confirmed 2 COVID-related deaths on Tuesday which pushed February’s record total to 36.
The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Tuesday, Feb. 23. Below is data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
On Tuesday, Coweta County confirmed 24 new COVID-19 cases with 2 deaths and 1 hospitalization. The 2 deaths are now give Coweta 12 in the past 8 days and pushes February’s record total to 36. The next closest month is January with 31 deaths.
Tuesday’s 24 cases did extend Coweta’s streak of double-digit cases to 102 days, dating from Nov. 14.
In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 184 COVID cases (26.3 per day), 10 deaths and 12 hospitalizations.
For the month of February, Coweta has posted 682 cases (29.7 per day), 36 deaths and 29 hospitalizations. Coweta, by comparison, posted 1866 cases or 60.2 per day in January.
The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks is sitting at 9.6 percent.
Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 7821 cases, 145 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 271 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 23rd in deaths due to COVID.
The age group of 55-64 year olds had the most new COVID cases on Tuesday with 6.

GEORGIA CASES
Georgia confirmed 2297 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday after back-to-back days below 2000. The state also added 72 deaths, 284 hospitalizations and 36 ICU admits yesterday.
Two patient census number categories rose slightly on Tuesday. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Wednesday is at 12,240 (up 278) or at 80.3 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is at 2479 (up 6) or 80.8 percent capacity.
Presently, 2262 people (down 54 from Tuesday) in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 14.5 percent of all statewide hospital patients. It’s the lowest number since 2197 COVID patients were hospitalized on Dec. 1. Also on Tuesday, 1244 Adult Ventilators were in use (down 26) which is 33.5 percent capacity.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 8.5 percent.
To date, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 808,416 cases, 14,761 deaths, 55,167 hospitalizations and 8967 ICU admits since the pandemic began.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
