THE SKINNY – Coweta County reported 2 deaths due to COVID-19 on Tuesday, pushing February’s total to 26. Georgia confirmed the 2nd-highest single-day total with 179.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Tuesday, Feb. 16. Below is data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 17 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, including 2 deaths and 0 hospitalizations. The county’s report also listed what is categorized as 1 probable death due to COVID but has not yet verified.

Case-wise, Coweta’s 17 on Tuesday extended its streak of double-digit cases to 95 days, dating from Nov. 14.

For the month of February, Coweta has posted 498 cases (31.1 per day), 26 deaths and 13 hospitalizations. Coweta’s 26 deaths already is the 2nd-highest total for a month, trailing only 31 in January.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.7 percent, and in the last two weeks has dropped to 8.6 percent (lowest since Nov. 24).

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 7637 cases, 135 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 259 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 25th in deaths due to COVID.

On Tuesday, the age groups of 15-24 and 35-44 year olds had the most new COVID cases with 4 each.

GEORGIA CASES

On Tuesday, Georgia confirmed 1840 new cases of COVID-19, including the 2nd-highest daily total for deaths at 179. The state also logged 255 hospitalizations and 39 ICU admits. The 179 deaths mark the 30th time Georgia has recorded 100-or-more in a day and pushes the cumulative total over 14,000.

It’s the first time since Nov. 9-10-11 that Georgia has had 3 straight days below 2000 cases. The state posted 1709 on Sunday, 1730 on Monday and 1840 today.

Presently, 2752 people (down 91 from Monday) in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 17.4 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Tuesday is at 12,335 (up 348) or at 80.9 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is at 2587 (up 53) or 83.6 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use is at 1333 (up 8) or 36.1 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 9.7 percent.

To date, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 794,349 cases, 14,176 deaths, 53,658 hospitalizations and 8801 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
