Weather: Cooler temperatures arrive in Coweta

After a string of five consecutive days with Heat Index values over 100 degrees last week, cooler temperatures are welcome beginning today here in Coweta County.

The Newnan-Coweta County Airport weather reporting station recorded 100 degrees-or-more Heat Index values starting on Tuesday(100). The other Heat Index numbers were 102 on Wednesday, 103 on Thursday, 104 Friday and 103 on Saturday.

This week, the National Weather Service says to look for high temperatures ranging in the low-to-mid 80s and overnight lows in the upper 60s.

Typical summer rain chances are listed in the extended forecast each day this week. Today’s rain chances are at 20 percent, increase to 50 percent Tuesday and Wednesday, then 40 percent on Thursday and Friday.

MONDAY – A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. North wind around 5 mph.

MONDAY NIGHT – A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph.

TUESDAY – A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon.

TUESDAY NIGHT – A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. East wind around 5 mph.

WEDNESDAY – A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. East wind around 5 mph.

THURSDAY – A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 83.

FRIDAY – A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 85.

SATURDAY – A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 87.
