Weather: Front to bring bitter wind and cold Saturday, warmer on Sunday

Old Man Winter will make a return late tonight and Saturday here in Coweta County, says the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.
After last Sunday’s official high of 80 degrees at the Newnan-Coweta Airport, the NWS expects the high temperature on Saturday to be near 37 with strong Northwest winds at 15-25 mph, gusting to 35-40. And the overnight low Saturday evening will drop to 21.
The return of winter scenario starts late tonight. Coweta County can expect mostly cloudy skies today with a high near 61. A 40 percent rain chance is in the forecast, mainly after 2 p.m.
Tonight, a strong cold front will push through Georgia and Coweta as East winds turn to the Northwest and jump to 15-20 mph after midnight. With the front comes heavy rain – a 90 percent chance of it – and drops the Friday night/early Saturday morning low to 31. And, a mix of rain and snow as part of the front passing is possible, listed at 30 percent around 5-6 a.m.
Folks can expect the clouds to clear out later Saturday as sunshine makes its return with highs only in the mid-30s.
A Wind Advisory will be in effect for Coweta and surrounding areas beginning at 1 a.m. Saturday thru 7 p.m. later in the evening. Northwest winds will be 15-25 mph, gusting as high as 40.
On Sunday, the winds subside and the sky will be clear with plenty of sun. It will begin a slight warming trend as the high reaches 53. Sunday’s overnight low drops to 30.
And on Monday, sunny skies and a high of 63 is expected.

FRIDAY NIGHT – Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1am. Low around 31. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest 15 to 20 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
SATURDAY – A chance of rain and snow showers, mainly before 7am. Partly sunny, with a high near 37. Windy, with a northwest wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
SATURDAY NIGHT – Clear, with a low around 21. North wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.
SUNDAY – Sunny, with a high near 53. North wind around 5 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.
MONDAY – Mostly sunny, with a high near 63.
